Valid point in rebuttal to what? A smattering of gibberish? A rash of hysterical whining?

    Re: Wise County Power Plant

Plain and simple, Wise County needs the power plant just as much as the company needs the county. Folks wonder why we can't afford schools?...loss of industry and the loss of taxes from it that we once enjoyed. Solution?..bring in more industry. If it bothers you guys that much, fund our local governments yourselves and see how long you like that. This plant isn't going to harm the environment any more than the mines and every other industry we have in the county. Just because a bunch of backwards hicks from St. Paul, a small group of 19 year old hippies, and trouble makers from across the county oppose this thing doesn't make it bad. Whine and cry all ya want, but it's coming..
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

I do believe, no I know, NSSB has more knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and such with this plant than you could imagine or comprehend. With his job it is a must and dealt with daily.

This ghostlyone sounds like a propoganda flyer, spouting off exactly what they have been spoonfed by the "hey look at me" bunch with no real facts or statistics to back up their allegations.

Dam there I go again forgetting the forum rules, facts and stats are strictly forbidin and will not be tollerated.

Where do they expect to get these "experienced" miner's. They aren't around they haven't done any new hiring in 20 years and the only people with experience are all retired. With the power plant and the increased demand for coal they will have to hire and train new miners.

No, that's no cut & paste. I work in the coal industry and used a bit of research and know-how regarding how that stuff works to piece together a pretty good counter-explanation (I believe) against the environmentalist doomsdayers. But you can keep cussing me and calling me a liar if it floats your boat.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: PVFAN</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Like I said there not doing it the most efficient way, thats my problem. The most efficient way isn't always affordable enough to make it economically feasible to do. There's always a give & take when it comes to a plant like this, no one's denying that--however, as I outlined in my small bit of research on carbon capture & mercury vapor...you need to keep in mind two very important things:

    1. NO large scale coal-fired plant in the world has 100% carbon capture, and not a lot of small-scale ones do either because the technology for it is still very expensive and doesn't work 100% of the time...so this "most efficient" way isn't even an industry standard, but yet we're going to hold this plant up to that type of lofty standard? Unreal.

    2. Mercury vapor condenses, and some of the mercury can be recovered and reused--the mercury cost for a single mercury vapor turbine is $250,000 ($1.24/lb). It'd be WAY too expensive to not have a way to recover some of it and re-use it. Not all of it will get dumped, and once again--magnesium & titanium are part of that "mercury vapor" mixture, and are more eco-friendly compounds--so it's not 100% liquified mercury being pumped into a stream...far from it.

I suggest when this thing does open, and it will, for some of the people, like yourself, who've heard the environmentalist schpiel and have bought into that mantra--go up there and ask for a tour of the facility so you can see how it works, and specifically ask about the "pollution" that the plant will give off. Go see for yourself about it instead of listening to people who are paid by organizations to make outrageous allegations against anything that even sounds like it might hurt the environment a little bit.
